Um, I have gcalctool 5.30 in Ubuntu 10.04 now so I don't understand the point.
Still 1st of April? :) I have 5.30 without this PPA! And backported from where? Or is 10.10 repo is already open?
I don't think author really ment backported. GCalctool-5.28 is far better than 5.30, especially for programmers. New version just sucks in numbers conversion.

It is easy to switch to hex/bin/oct with the x_2 / x_16 / x_8 buttons, but how to switch back to decimal no one knows.
I don't know what you're doing, but this keeps creeping up on planet.ubuntu.com for the past week.
Why is this being reverted? IMO the newer version is much better.
While 5.30 is much better in a lot of respects it does make using hexadecimal numbers harder. As users of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS could be potentially using it for 1.5 years this could cause problems for a significant number of users.
We will provide 5.31 in 10.10 so you will only have to wait 6 months for the new version to be standard (with an improved user interface). In the mean time I will make the latest version available in a PPA for Lucid users.
